Mask Project

 1. The reason that I picked these 3 masks as my inspiration for my own mask creation is because these masks looked the most interesting to me. The elements of art are used in all of these masks and they include many patterns and one includes many colors as well.

2. In my mask I also used color and various patterns. I based my mask on the multi colored one.

3. For my mask I used newspaper and layered them with glue to make the shape. I then used paint to color and design the patterns. I then put some yarn on top of the mask to try and recreate the flaps that were on the mask that I was using as my inspiration. I thought that this project was fun and I enjoyed doing it.

Module 10 videos

1. The reason I decided to watch The Great Wave and the Chinese Art videos was because they seemed the most interesting to me out of all the videos.

2. In the Chinese art video I saw and learned about 33 pieces of art that have rarely been seen by people outside of the National Palace Museum. The video covers all of the Chinese art periods, and my favorite would have to be the Ming cup because I find the history behind the Ming Dynasty very interesting. In the Great Wave video I learned about Japans most iconic image. The video talked about multiple meanings of the wood printing and it also tells how the artist lived and how this image impacted Pop Art of the 1960's.

3. I think the videos could have related a little bit better to the book, but overall the videos give you a decent idea of what the book is trying to explain. The videos also helped me visualize what the book was trying to illustrate.

4. I thought that the films were filled with information about the Chinese art culture but I think the Great Wave film should have talked about other Japanese art if it was going to be so long. As I said in number 3 the films helped me visualize what the book was trying to illustrate.

Hand Drawing

1. I thought it was interesting having the hands be the subject of my drawing because you never think about your hands as being art, I only think of them as creating art.

2. I chose pencil as my media because it was the easiest for me to find.

3. It felt really weird using my left hand to draw with.

4. I think it is a start but not a succesful study.

5. No I wouldn't chose to use my left hand to do artwork in the future.

module 9 videos

1. The reason that I selected the Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci videos, is because I enjoyed learning about them in the previous chapters.

2. In the Michelangelo video I learned about his preparatory drawings and how they led to the sculptures and architecture that he would eventually create. I thought that it was kind of interesting to see how he progressed through his process of creativity that eventually led to so many famous finished products. In the da Vinci video I learned about the life a da Vinci and also all of the achievements that he had throughout his entire life time.

3. The videos related very well to the text and they added much more material than what is found in the book. These videos went into way more depth about the lives and works of these two men.

4. Overall like most of the videos I thought that these videos were long and at some points they were rather dry and boring but I did learn some useful information from them. As I said in my answer to question 3 I believe that these videos added more depth and knowledge than the book did, so now I have more information about what these 2 men did for not only art but for the entire human race for generations to come.

Module 8 videos

1. The reason I selected Late Gothic Art and Architecture and the Black death videos are because they sounded interesting plus I like architecture.

2. In the more human than human video I learned that throughout history whenever the human body is created by an artist in a sculpture it is usually created superficially, the human form is usually created to look perfect. In the Gothic Architecture video I learned about the change of styles of architecture from the middle ages to the Renaissance. I also learned about the different types of art that England produced during that period of time like jewelry, sculptures, manuscripts, and structures. In the Black death video I learned about the two cities of  Siena and Florence and how the bubonic plague literally destroyed the life and culture of those cities.

3. The videos related rather well to the reading from the book. Watching the videos added depth to the reading especially with the architecture video and the black death video. It gave you an idea of what really happened to people during the bubonic plague era.

4. I thought the films were very informative but they were also very long and dry at sometimes. Like I said before they added depth to the texts by giving you a sense of what people had to endure during the middle ages and how hard it was for a person to exist.

Module 7 videos

1. In the architecture The Science of Design video we learned how sky scrappers are built not only to withstand gravity but also withstand wind, earthquakes, weather and time. This video also talks about concrete and how it is made and the uses of it as a building material. In the Classical Architecture video it talked about the 3 types of styles of Greece (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian) and the two styles of Roman architecture (Tuscan and Composite). This video also talked about arches and how key they are to modern architecture.

2. The classical video basically reiterates the chapter and the science video introduces new material for the modern type of architecture.

3. I thought the films were very informative but a little boring and long. The films added depth by increasing the material that the book talked about.

4. I picked these two videos because they seemed interesting to me and the Frank Lloyd Wright video wasn't loading for me.

Installation Project

1. Installation art is 3-D art that is often site specific and is designed to take up space.
2. Many types of materials are used for installation art. You can used wood, steel, music, videos, clay basically anything that you can use to create 3-D art.
3. Installation art is made for your enjoyment, for people to make money and just for fun. It is just like why regular art is made.
4. I didn't find any of the artist or installation interesting in the book.
5. No there isn't a specific material that I felt connected with.
6. I am going to use the Invention and Fantasy theme.
7. Since I am going to design a house I will use building foam to create a model.
8. My installation is going to be a scale model of a house so if it were to be built to scale it would be located in a neighbor hood. But since it is a model it will be located in my kitchen.

Video Blog

1.  For the Through the Eyes of the Sculptor video I learned about the entire process of how a sculpture is made. In the video it says a sculpture comes alive in clay, dies in plaster and is reborn is marble For the Glass and Ceramics video I learned how glass is made and some of the techniques such as blowing glass which is actually very cool. Also the process of how the stain glass windows was kind of interesting to me. For the Installation Art video I learned all types of art. For example the video went from architecture to music and video. Basically this video covered the entire genre of art.

2. The videos go a little bit more in depth than the book did on some of the topics. But for the most part I thought they went hand in hand.

3. My over all thoughts of the videos were that they were more intersting than the book however they were a little long. They did cover the topics sculpture, installation and craft very well. The videos added some more depth to this topics than the book did I think.

Peer Review

1. Here are the blogs that I reviewed. http://schotzie-angie.blogspot.com/ and  http://vincesaed200.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html .

2. Yes I agreed with the images and the elements that were listed. But for some pictures you were able to see multiple elements such as line, shape and even color and texture.

3. No, none of the other blogs that I reviewed had the same images as my blog.

4. In Vince's blog the image of the stairs really caught my attention due to how detailed they were. The one thing that I would want to know about that artwork is why did the artist decide to create them, to me it doesn't make sense to create stairs just as a piece of art.

5. I thought it was seeing what other people put for their own projects, but on the subject of if looking at them helped me learn I would have to say no it did not.

6. No because I have no comments.

1. a)  Jim Hodges, Look and See, enamel on stainless steel which was created in 2005 made an impression on me because of how big it was (762x350.5x365.8 cm). This piece is a massive hunk of metal that has all sorts of designs cut into it. But I think the thing that stood out the most to me was the setting around the artwork, I mean how it was outside and how the light was hitting it, it just seemed very cool to me.

b) Another piece that made an impression on me was The Coming Storm by George Inness. Its an oil on canvas painting that was created in 1878. The reason it made an impression on me is that it reminded me of a thunderstorm that I was trapped in with my family.

2. a) I felt a connection to Vincent Van Gough's La Maison de la Crau which is an oil on canvas painting that was created in 1888. The reason I felt connected to this painting is because it reminded me of fall because of the landscape in the painting and it also reminded of Thanksgiving because of the two people in the foreground.

b) I also felt a connection to Andy Warhol's oil on canvas 100 Cans painting which was painted in 1962. I felt a connection to this painting because of the Campbell's soup cans in the painting. I felt like those cans have always been there for me when I am sick and I will have a bowl of chicken noodle soup.

3. a)  I would like to know more about Nancy Dwyer's Kill Yourself, vinyl paint on canvas which was painted in 1989. My reason for wanting to know more about this painting is because all that is really painted is the words " Kill Yourself" I really want to know why she painted that.

b) Another painting that I would like to know more about is Tim Bavington's Surprise, Surprise which is an acrylic on canvas that was painted in 2003. I want to know more about it because I don't understand how this painting is a surprise it is basically a bunch of lines then the color orange.
